PureTech Scientific’s Glyclean® D family of products are registered active ingredients based on glycolic acid for use in disinfectants. Combining exceptional cleaning attributes and broad-spectrum activity against both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, bacteria, and fungi, Glyclean® D is built to do more for one-step clean and disinfect products.
PureTech Scientific’s high-purity, continuous process provides the foundation for the only glycolic acid registered as a disinfecting active ingredient in the US. Upon BPR completion, Glyclean® D will achieve status as one of the few actives carrying global registration, streamlining formulation efforts and providing long-term product viability.
As an alternative to quaternary ammonium-based disinfectants, Glyclean® D has a preferred user safety and environmental profile, and its three distinct mechanisms of action reduce the development of microbial resistance. Disinfectant products that utilize Glyclean® D double as cleaners due to glycolic acid’s unique dual functional groups and small size, penetrating and removing soils and mineral scale. Compared to disinfectants based on larger organic acid molecules, Glyclean® D is effective at lower add-rates and leaves behind little-to-no residue.
For quicker speed-to-market, PureTech Scientific offers four Glyclean® D formulations for sub-registration under the US EPA, and one formulation for licensing in the EU:
A high-purity glycolic acid that is a key ingredient in personal care, medical sutures, and high-performing semiconductors.
A technical-grade glycolic acid that is a key ingredient in electronics, surface cleaners, and other industrial processing uses.
