Oilfield chemistry that dissolves more and corrodes less.

PureTech Scientific supports oilfield service companies and operators with Glysolve™ O&G 70, a dedicated glycolic acid grade that dissolves scale and holds metals in solution while being easier on equipment than mineral acids. It ships from Belle, WV by rail, river barge and truck, so field programs can count on domestic supply.

How it works

Glycolic acid's acid group dissolves carbonate and oxide scale, and its alcohol group chelates calcium and iron into water-soluble salts. It reacts more slowly with carbonate than hydrochloric acid, so it can penetrate deeper before it spends.

Design note: Calcium glycolate is less soluble than calcium formate or acetate. Blending with formic acid or using ammonium salts are proven approaches, and our team can help you choose.

Why PureTech

What oilfield programs need from an acid supplier, built in.

Oilfield programs need chemistry that removes scale without eating equipment, delivered on schedule at bulk scale.

Supply you can schedule a program around

Our dedicated glycolic acid facility runs 24/7 with on-site rail and barge access on the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers. Plan field programs with confidence.

A spec built for the field

Our continuous, single-step process keeps every lot on spec. Glysolve™ O&G 70 is made to a dedicated oilfield specification, with chloride not detected and iron held to 6.0 ppm max.

Programs designed around your conditions

Our technical team helps you choose concentrations and delivery formats, from rail cars and bulk tankers to 250 kg drums, and design around calcium glycolate solubility.

Planning a scale or stimulation program?

Tell us your application, conditions and volumes. We'll send the Glysolve™ O&G 70 spec sheet, a sample and a technical contact, and set up the delivery format that fits your program.

Frequently asked questions

Can glycolic acid replace hydrochloric acid?
In many scale removal and some stimulation applications, yes. It dissolves carbonate and iron scale with far less corrosion on carbon steel. Performance depends on your conditions, so talk to our team about screening.
How does it help with produced water?
Published field work shows low doses of glycolic acid removing water-soluble organics from produced water without adding scale.
What about calcium glycolate solubility?
Calcium glycolate is less soluble than calcium formate or acetate. Blending with formic acid or using ammonium salts are proven approaches.
How is it packaged and stored?
Rail cars, bulk tankers, 1,250 kg IBCs and 250 kg drums, with custom concentrations available. Store above 10 °C (50 °F) to prevent crystallization.
What packaging is available?
Rail cars, bulk tankers, 1,250 kg IBCs and 250 kg drums, with custom concentrations available.
